I went into this book on the cautious side, I'm already a pretty big fan of this author and I know that just because I liked her other works didn't mean I would like them all. Thank goodness it stuck to the fantasy genre that I loved the most so I had a extremely easy time enjoying myself and regretting that fact that it ended knowing its the first in the series and I'll have to wait quite a bit before I can continue the story.

I was't really sure about Siennas character in the beginning, I really thought she was going to be one of those whinny characters for a bit. Thank goodness she wasn't and as the story progressed I found that she was really growing on me. She know her own faults and tried her hardest to work past them. There is also a couple of surprising things that happened that involved her that made everything more interesting and pulled me deeper into the story (sorry if that sounds vague, I try my hardest to give spoiler free reviews and don't want to give things away here.)

I'm still not sure how I feel about Darius. I'm not sure if I like him or if I am still wary of him. I feel like he will end up surprise me big time. He is really intriguing to me though. I want to know more about him and his past. Mainly how he came to be what he is now.

The plot itself seemed pretty simple at the get go but got more interesting as the story moved on. It stuck to its guns and you pretty much knew how things where going to go at one point but there was still things that would pop up to put you through a loop and keep you on your toes for a bit.

There is a touch ,a small one, of romance as well. If you are like me and you like to have a little bit of romance dashed in I'm sure you will like how it was handled. There is none of the hated intsa-love here. Shreffler has a knack for being able to add this touch to her stories without it being overbearing and having it more at a nice pace.

The world itself seemed very interesting. I would have liked to learn more about the different holds and how they were run. I also wanted to know more about the religion and how they were viewed and the deeper meanings. I can't forget the dragons either, there is some stuff told about them and the different kinds but I would have like to know more (I have a little soft spot for dragons). I can say I feel like this stuff will be explored more in the books to come and I could just be feeling greedy.

There aren't any lose ends laying around, and it ends in a way that is satisfying but makes you want to come back to read the next one. All in all it was a good start to what I know is coming to become another great series.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, if your a fan of fantasy I'm sure you will like this one.

The White The Dragon Pearl Book 1 eBook T L Shreffler Linda Jay Reviews

A fast read with lots of dragon fighting action. Our heroine starts off w/lots of knowledge of nature, but very little of the larger politics of humanity. She is smart & becomes a fast learner of whom she can trust & what she is capable of. I sense some rollicking good adventures as she tries to figure out how to follow her moral code -- as it goes against just about everyone else's.
It took me a while to get into this one, unlike the Cat's Eye Chronicles where I was sucked in from the start, but this was interesting. I love dragons and I love TL Shreffler, even if she does take a million years to write a book!
The beginning of another great series by one of my favorite authors. I'm already a huge fan of her Cat's Eye Chronicles and it looks like The Dragon Pearl series will be no different. The story centers around Sienna Foxburn, a young woman who doesn't feel quite like she has a place within the safe walls of her home, feeling more comfortable roaming the lands around it. I find her to be a very realistic character, she has her skills and confidence in certain areas, but she can also be a bit reckless at times and has some fears she will need to overcome. all in all, I really like her.

Then there's this awesome character named Darius. He is frightening and dangerous, but he's not the quiet, gloomy brooding type like a certain assassin from the Cat's Eye Chronicles. He smiles and even takes part in conversation. I like his character so much and look forward to his further interactions with Sienna. There is something there that piqued my interest greatly.

The White is full of action and my most favorite dragons. Being a avid tabletop gamer, I like how Shreffler didn't go with the flow of stereotypical everyday fantasy dragons. The one that caught my interest the most was the mirror dragon. I love the concept!

The only part I didn't like what how abrupt the ending felt. I don't mind cliffhangers, but this one kind left me with an irritated feeling, like there should have been maybe a page or two more to smooth out the ending a bit. All in all, I loved it.

Now I have two series by Miss Shreffler that I am eagerly awaiting the next installments of!
I had high hopes for this new series, the cat's eye chronicles are one of my favorites. Sadly, the characters in this book just didn't grab me, the heroine is bland and her self pitying attitude is annoying. Seems like a super formulaic book. Girl finds out she has special powers, super hot brooding guy falls for her, for no apparent reason. The side characters were underdeveloped and I had a hard time believing the motivations for their actions ( people from the hold ). The only interesting part were the dragons. I was waiting to get swept up in a grand adventure, like I did immediately with Sora and Crash. It just never happened, there was no chemistry and I had trouble finishing the book. It's pretty sad when you feel more worry for the Dragon that is being hunted than the main characters. Sad to say this was a huge disappointment, I will not be continuing this series.
Genre YA Fantasy

Sienna, is a young woman, definitely not royal, in a small stronghold; she is a bit outside the usual norms trained by her father, she is more at home out in the woods than in the constraints of her society. When she accidentally leads the Lord’s son’s girlfriend to mimic her courage, disaster strikes the Great White, a huge dragon spots her and takes her for food. As a consequence, Sienna is exiled from the stronghold and sent on a quest to to kill the Great White.
On the journey she befriends the two dragon killers, but fears and dislikes the mage who leads the quest. Moreover, in their interactions with other, smaller dragons, Sienna develops strange sensations and feelings, and she comes to question this search to kill all dragons.
I really enjoyed this first book, and hope more are on the way. I feel that the Cat’s Eye Chronicles, another of her series is one of the best I’ve read.
